JERUSALEM (AP) ? Israel's prime minister insists he will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.
Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to Israeli media Thursday, a day after returning from a visit to Washington, where Iran was a main topic of his talks with President Barack Obama.
"It is forbidden to let Iran arm itself with nuclear weapons, and I intend not to allow it," Netanyahu said.
Asked about a possible Israeli attack, he said he is not "standing with a stopwatch" for war and prefers a peaceful solution.
Israel views Iran an existential threat because of its nuclear and missile programs, its support of violent anti-Israel groups and frequent calls for the destruction of the Jewish state.
The West believes Iran wants to develop nuclear weapons. Iran denies that.
